Gold Watch Winder or knife pommel or?

Post by Me and my boy » Tue May 14, 2019 9:05 pm

I got back on an old permission I’ve not been on for a year nearly.

It’s old rotted stubble and nice and flat.

This was from an area with a lot of Victorian( I think) pottery and junk. It has bits of old broken bottle too so I thought I would have a look.
I bent down to pick a bit of bottle up and got a signal right where I put the detector.
About 4-5” deep I saw the gold.

I think it’s a Victorian Watch winding key with the iron bits rusted away leaving signs top and bottom

It weighs just over 4 grams and it heavy for its size.

No hallmarks.

I'd have thought that a watch key was a decent guess. How much gold is in it is anybody's guess. Always welcome though. ::g

Cheers Fred. I might hit it with a hammer and hope the rust crumbles away leaving the gold.

Hope the 2nd comment is a joke as well. :D

It could be the top of a very up-market book marker. What do you reckon ?

Beautiful little find ::g
