Hammered For ID Please?

Post by Pete E » Thu May 16, 2019 7:03 pm

Went out yesterday evening with a mate on a permission that so far has not thrown up any thing of any age..

After an hour of nothing much, my mate turned up a nice spindle whorl and shortly after I found this hammered only about an inch down. It was on a grass field that had been recently cut for silage.

Unfortunately straight out of the ground it was folded in half almost completely shut and that double fold also had a kink in it the other way. Close examination it showed the start of a couple of fractures as well which made me even more nervous..

I was doubtful it would unfold at all, but I managed to get it reasonably flat although the main fracture did get a little worse.

This was found using my Makro Racer2 on Two Tone and gave a TID of 29/30/31 which surprised me as silver normal comes up in the low 60's..

If anybody can ID the coin I would be most grateful...

Regards,

Peter

Cheers A,

And many thanks for the amazingly fast response as usual!

Could you advise the Spinks Ref please as I had a look and could not work out which one likely referred...

Thanks

Peter

After a closer look through Spinks, I think it is S1844?
