Lead pendant thingy

Post by shingies pete » Sun Jun 09, 2019 9:42 pm

Hi all ,first time out in 2 years, way to long, found this lead shaped object 8" deep on bedrock next to the remnants of an ancient large stone dyke, peaty soil and the only signal in a 25 metre radius.I should add not a scheduled site. The hole in the pointed end is not circular, slightly oval and larger one side than the other, the oxidising is at least 1 mm thick, any ideas for id would be most welcome, thanks ,Peter.

I should add 52mm long 38mm wide 7mm thick and73.5 grammes.

I think that you’d have to assume that it’s a home made trade weight of some sort. :D

Couldn’t it be a fishing weight? Not for a hand held fishing line but for a crab basket or fishing net?

Although i guess it could be q weight for lots of other things too ::g

I am in Cornwall, it was a Wednesday when I wrote it but 50 years ago. Things are different down here.
