Suspension mount

Post by GeorgeMK » Mon Nov 11, 2019 10:22 am

Not many finds for me yesterday, apart from a lot of .303 cases which the farmers son kept. Very muddy maize stubble near Chipping Norton. Using my Nox800 with the Searcher Power Programme.

First signal of the day was this token with the letters FB. (Any info appreciated)

Best find was the harness mount of suspension type. Similar ones on PAS are 12th-14th century. It would have had an heraldic device suspended from the pivot pin originally.

The suspension mount is medieval. Here’s an identical one https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts ... /id/974895

They are nice finds :D

Edit - see you already knew that =))

The tokens with initials tend to be 17-18th century according to Colchester http://www.colchestertreasurehunting.co ... tokens.htm

I'm not disagreeing with you Cath but in the first batch of photos in your link - 3 across, 7 down, there is a very similar fern leaf pattern dating from much earlier - unfortunately it only shows one side - who knows?

I’m not by any means an expert on tokens so disagree away ::g Tokens are very hard to date and many patterns are used over long periods. Debating them is where we’ll all learn :D
