Post by Northernstar002 » Wed Jul 10, 2019 11:20 am

Just won me a nice Makro racer as my first machine. It comes with:

"1 x 13x13 mars discovery coil £150 12 months ago

One full shaft camo

2 x waterproof screen covers

2 x waterproof battery cover

Upgraded hand cover for comfort

1x headphones adjustable volume and on/off switch."

Been watching s many vids as possible, many thanks to Copperballs1 for the advice...

Should be delivered soon.

An often overlooked machine which features a very usable wet salt sand function making it a practical and capable alternative to a multi-frequency machine.
You won't be disappointed ::g Regards ss47

Look for a Nel Sharp or Cors point coil, the separation is outstanding.

I've had the racer for a while now with the rc40 coil. I think it's a fantastic machine! If there's something there it will find it ::g

Well, it came yesterday and I left work early to race home and get it assembled.

After watching many youtube videos on the set up and use of the screen settings, I still felt a little over whelmed - but that'll pass.

I took it into the garden for a quick test (chucking my ring on the floor and seeing what it said when I found it), I swiftly took it out further way and promptly came across a very strong and clear signal. I couldn't resist it, I dug a tidy square and found a 2p, about 5 inches down...find #1!

I don't want to get into the habit of digging my own garden due to pipes and tidiness etc, and the fact that my house was built in the 90's so it's probably full of rubbish and junk in amongst the hardcore used to make up the ground.

But, every tone is like a lucky dip box...

I've been using my Racer2 (named "Frank") as my first machine and I am enjoying it very much...

Why call it "Frank" you ask ???

Its named after Frank Bough as its biggest down fall is Coke ....

One further question though:

How water proof is the Makro racer?

I'm not going to be diving with it, but if I were to venture to the beach, I'm assuming that the coil is fine to be submerged?

Up to what point? I've got some covers for the control box, but what are the limits?

The coil on my Rcer 2 seems to be waterproof as I've had it in stream water ect.. With regards the beach, while I don't think there would be an issue in getting the coil wet, I do see issues with the shaft it self as unless its rinsed very well afterwards, you might start seeing corrosion.

The Control Box is not in any way waterproof and even using a cover, I would only consider it shower proof at best...

I used the Racer 2 and can assure you its a good machine.

Good inland, and better than most in the price range if you are beach detecting.

Have a Racer 1 and it is always good on the beach. Also got a Nokta Impact on the way and I expect that to be just as good. Makro/Nokta make excellent machines :)

Well your a very lucky person indeed.
Up untill a couple of years ago I had the pleasure of owning two Makro red racers.
Both were very successful metal detectors,it found me numerous Roman coins, Roman broaches,Anglo Saxon artifacts,13th century dagger chape....just an amazing machine.
I also found it to be a very stable machine on wet salty muddy sand.
Also,i found that using a MARS "tiger" coil which increased the depth considerably more.
I am now using a new Makro KRUZER...and slowly getting used to it.
But note,I never strayed from the MAKRO stable.
Thanks for reading..and as always,Good hunting ::g .

Yes I’m just about to take the plunge myself. Should I go for the Anfibio or the Simplex Detector for 1/2 the price of the Anfibio? Nokta/Makro are making some cracking machines at the moment!

Well, I took the leap and bought the racer 2, I just hope as its second hand that it's okay when it turns up.
From what the previous owner has told me it sounds like it has had little use as it still has the screen protector on and is still under guarantee for another 10 months. ::g

i recently bought a makro 2 racer from eBay (big mistake!) paid 300 for it with two coils one of which was new from regtons. immediately developed a check coil fault. ended up shipping it back to makro's british registered repair centre. cost 250 quid for a new board so basically paid the same as a new machine pretty much. haven't tried it yet as the weather is rubbish but if anyone can give me some pointers as to best way to use it as I'm new. also bought a pair of philips headphones with dongle but couldn't get it to pair! ended up buying a cheap bluetooth dongle and plugging it in to headphone out and velcroing it onto the detector. works fine.i wanted the deaus but couldn't afford it. the makro has great reviews and looking forward to using it weather permitting.
