Bounty Hunter Discovery 2200 - any good?
Hi,
I have had an offer of the loan of a very basic machine to try (a friend of my sister, who had one and doesnt use it).
The reviews look poor -its a Bounty Hunter Discovery 2200 Metal Detector from Costco.
I thought it might be a good idea to try that first, and just see how I get on - but in forum members experience, could using a badly rated machine like that just put me off?
Thanks

Yes it will put you off.
You have already been to the well and asked for advice.
Act upon it.

My first detector was a chepo one from maplins. It was trash but to be fair I had some pretty decent finds with it. It made me want to upgrade and go detecting whenever I had the chance. I say go for it as it's only a loan and won't cost you anything so you have nothing to lose.

It is a beginners machine, but First Texas, the owner of Bounty Hunter / Fisher /Teknetics don't make rubbish machines. It will work, just don't expect any stand-out depth from it. It should be competent at 'coin-shooting', it's main design intent. Running at 6.5 kHz ( I think) means it's not going to be too hot on the stuff that reads 'low down' on the ID scale ... foil, ladies gold rings, 5p coins. But lots of stuff is shallow, so you should have no trouble finding plenty with it.
Note: it appears to have similar PP3 battery retaining clips as the Fisher F2/4/5 , which can be trouble .... grip like an alligator and won't let go. Try not to break them when removing the batteries.

Thanks for the tip.
I might just have a go with it for a few days while continuing my research on what equipment to buy.
