Equinox 600 lots of chatter.

Post by Andik » Tue May 22, 2018 3:40 pm

Hi, anyone else experienced lots of chatter with the 600?
On the ground and in the air?
Any advice on how to get rid of it, or could I have a faulty machine?
TIA

Are you using pre-set program? Did you remember to ‘noise cancel’? I ask because it was a mistake I made 1st out and it nearly drove me nuts. I was on heavy mineralised soil with lots of old iron.
Also you can try manual ground balance.

Try returning to factory settings and see if the chattering goes.

Sounds like possible EMI from power lines or wi-fi, try turning down the sensitivity and ground balancing, assuming you have noise cancelled first. Try also running in single frequencies one at a time to see if the chattering stops. The Equinox is a VERY sensitive machine and more prone to interference than my other detectors, but you can usually eliminate most of the noise.

There are power lines running over the field I am detecting in, I did not realize this could cause an issue, Thank you!

That was my first experience with ‘chatter’. I own a field at the back of our house and they have main power lines running overhead.
Field is great for testing and getting used to new machines.
Luckily I’d seen on a YouTube clip how to deal with this problem on the Equinox.
Just lower the sensitivity till it stops. I only went down 2 numbers and it stopped instantly.
Hope it’s just easy as that for you.

I had this problem the other week on a farm and it was going nuts until I realised there was a phone mast nearby. Never had any problems with my own phone interfering so could be your between 2 masts relaying info to each other. It seems to be a wide band of interference going in one direction across the field that dropped off as you walked away.
