Equinox verification

Post by onions » Tue Jun 04, 2019 8:25 am

Hello fellow field floaters, could anyone tell me if there is a way of checking an equinox 800 serial number on a used machine before buying it? The websites I can find only cater for other minelabs. I'm just trying to be cautious before taking the plunge.
Thanks in advance.

You could ask the seller where he bought it from and then contact that dealer, they should have a record of the serial numbers they sold ?

I would only buy a secondhand machine from a friend and even then I would always want to see the original receipt. This should have the machine and searchcoil numbers on it plus the name of the purchaser. As said you can contact the dealer to verify it.

If you are in any doubt about the purchaser or the machine then get your new detector from a dealer (particularly one of those that supports this forum). It may cost a little bit more than a secondhand one but you know that it hasn't been fiddled with, abused or nicked. :D

Yes that's a sensible response. Spend a bit more and know what you are getting. Peace of mind more than anything.

You can verify the authenticity of any Minelab Metal Detector by clicking the button below and verifying the machines serial number

They actually must have changed their stuff, it seems now they only verify certain models, despite them saying 'any minelab metal detector' .....hmmmmm.

That was my impression, which seems like a loophole for any dodgy ones etc.

Just also found this, maybe a little broader for other models.
