Had the same decision to make, went for 600, and aftermarket Bluetooth headphones, didn't see the need for the gold modes.
Haven't regretted it.

There are many more advantages with the 800. I’m sure someone will elaborate.
I also went for the 600, with after sales Blue Tooth phones. My only regret is you can’t save a personal ‘program’ with the 600.
It will, however save it when you turn off and reinstate it next time you turn on. Unless you go to another program.
Most of the settings are quick and easy to change but if you get a program set up that you like WRITE IT DOWN. I didn’t and got caught out. Had a panic attack and couldn’t remember how to correct it. Lost all my ‘tweeks’ and had to go back to the drawing board.
Other than that, as many 600 users will tell you, it takes a bit of beating ::g

The 800 is better value as it includes wireless headphones and the WM-08 unit as well as more options. ::g

If I had purchased the 800 instead of the 600 the set up I use now would be identical on both machines. The 600 has more than enough options for normal inland and beach detecting.

As with Rex123 I used the saving to purchase a better quality and more compact headset.

As I said many times in my IT support job to users .. "Read the manual". It shows all the differences.

https://www.minelab.com/__files/f/32654 ... EN_WEB.pdf

I would say the main ones are -
1) Being able to save a user profile.
2) More precise settings (eg Recovery speed the 800 has 8 settings while the 600 only has 3, and this is the same for several settings), so you can more accurately adjust your settings.
3) Extra Gold mode, (I know a couple of people that have used this to good effect on sandy soil searching for small items, including hammys!).
4) Extra Freqs (20 and 40 Khz are only on the 800).
5) Wireless headphones and the WM-08 unit

If cash is tight the 600 is a great machine, but if you want to get the best maximum out of the Nox the extra flexibilty and options given by the 800 is the one to go for.

Aside from the extra kit the most obvious advantage of an 800 is the finer adjustment of controls like the Recovery Speed and Iron Bias. If you only have a 600 them you probably won't notice but if you are an experienced 800 user setting up a 600 then you certainly will. ::g

Actually Saffron, I think you’ll find that operating the 600 in ‘all frequency’ the 20 & 40kh are there.

The difference is, with the 800 you can select all the individual frequencies independently but you can’t on the 600.

As usual, I stand to be corrected ::g

I would say the 800 is the better option. Apart from the many extra settings there is the WM08 module, much better than the Bluetooth.

My opinion is, If you get the 800, you will not get the ‘what if’ that you WILL get if you buy a 600 .

Its an interesting question, also interesting is that it seems most if not all of the reply's are from folk who already own one or the other so therefore will happily endorse the model they already have, does anyone with a 600 regrets the fact they didn't buy an 800, or vice versa? myself I have a 600, bought as an upgrade from my old xterra, its light years above my previous machine, I have no need for gold prospecting or more frequency's (which are available on the 600's multi frequency feature) plus I don't have to drop the extra £200 on the 800's headphones when I can buy the ones I want and pair them to the 600, do you see what I mean, promoting the model you already have! ;)

It's a good point. I have used the 600 (a bit) and the 800 (a lot). Both are fine machines and are quite unusual in that, with a bit of practice, they are suitable for beginners or experienced users alike. If you have had another machine once you have got the hang of either Nox it you will almost certainly think that it is better overall than your previous machine, therefore you will probably enthuse about it.

However, finding good stuff with the 800 desn't mean that you couldn't have found it with another detector. Likewise, just because you do well with the 600 it doesn't mean that it is as good as it gets. A 600 may well perform identically in many situations but, if you can, I would still always suggest getting an 800 unless you know with absolute certainty that you will never detect in any situation where the additional features or adjustability of the 800 will give you an edge. :D

I really don't know why Minelab sell the 600...They would be better off offering the 800 at the two price points ie one with the wireless kit as they do now and one with out, as per the 600...

I agree but then it wouldn't make sense to pay another £200 for £150 quids worth of electronics! :D

I just bought an 800, I did consider the 600 too, for me it was the extra settings, and the bluetooth module that swung it for me.
I have a couple of extracts, but wanted waterproof, fast, and light.
Both 600 & 800 are fine machines, spoilt for choice we are. ::g

WM08 module is £219.95. If the detectors were identical then price difference would be as much as the current £200

It was a fairly straightforward decision for me. When I bought my 800 eighteen months ago, there were the usual early field tests in magazines, but the only reliable guide was Fred's early experiments on here. I was quickly 'sold' on the machine (despite a few 'scare' stories on FB), and the only question was 800 or 600. My rationale was simple: the 600 is an excellent machine in its own right, but the 800 has more functionality. I don't change my detector very often, so it was just a question of whether I could afford the extra £200 just in case the 'extras' were worthwhile. £200 spread over at least a couple of years seemed reasonable. Best detector I have used and I don't regret it for a minute. If the extra £200 is going be a stretch, the 600 is still a great detector.

Cheers Brad. It is interesting to note that a large proportion, possibly half, of the detectors that you see on organised digs (I often do the Joan Allen events ones) now are Noxes! :D

As an aside as the new f2 mode on the 600 spans the same range as the 800 though in three increments. I wonder if a later software update will do the same for the recovery setting.
BTW the twin level illumination for the display was a bonus on the latest 600 update. ::g

Interested to see others who have the Sov in their machine list signature.
I have done it too! Arrives I hope tomorrow. Went for a used 600 as was about £200 less than the 800s I was seeing and had a long transferred warranty. With the saving I got myself some waterproof headphones which was a must have with any machine.

I read loads. My conclusion was I was not 100% committed being a Sov, Excal and PI user on only beach. Couldn’t see what the 800 offered me on the beach that I do not have with the 600. I did think the extra tones could be be useful in the water especially being a Sov user but that was it.

Interested to know if I missed something for beach hunters that the 800 offers?
Anyway it’s was bit cheaper so I can see what the Nox is all about.
