Post by Norman_invader »

I found this whilst metal detecting a stubble field,
I know nothing about fossils, but is this a tooth?
It's 55mm long & 25mm wide,the whole stone is cylindrical,but split down the middle,
Any ideas please 👍

It's a Belemnite, a kind of squid. 135 million years old.

Belemnites were around from the Late Triassic to late Cretaceous spanning 130my, not a bad innings ::g
Rolling about naked in mud will give the wrong impression.
