Hello all

Post by Longshanks » Tue Jun 11, 2019 10:18 pm

Hi, thanks for letting me join the forum. Have been following for a while and there is so much good advice and information sharing on here. Returned to detecting after a gap of about 35 years when I was a spotty kid with an old BFO machine at the local park and still have the finds in a box - best one being a 1921 florin.

Have been using the Garrett 300i since last year and what a perfect machine for learning the ropes again and then some. My one permission is a field lying fallow and have found everything from romans to lots of decimals, with two silver hammered to make it really interesting. Not sure how all the decimals are there as it's been nothing but a cornfield for forty years at least. Lots of foil pie tins as well so tells a story about tractor drivers eating habits !

Just upgraded to a Nox, so starting again on the field to see what turns up and loving it. Good luck out there. ::g

Great intro and glad to hear that the spark's been re-ignited - we'll no doubt be seeing the results posted up here in short order.

Welcome back to the hobby from Cambridgeshire Longshanks... enjoy your time.

PS: I am guessing that you are not north of the border with a name like that? =))

Hello Longshanks (or is it Edward) A warm welcome aboard.::g
Some say it's the 'early learning centre' for all aspiring detectorists 8-|. Our membership comprises a really good bunch of 'peeps' so you'll have no trouble at all settling-in and enjoying your time with us here on the MDF.

Good Luck with your new machine and as our noble member from Norwich said, post up a find or three for us to envy ::g Regards ss47

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I'm not from north of the border, far from it and down in the East Midlands. My user name inspired by my first hammered and Braveheart of course ! x;

Can anybody in MDF please assist with any more information with my second hammered please - my research so far suggests Edward 11 or 111, Durham mint with the long cross crozier. Not much information on the web about this and can only find an example of a right hand crozier.

Found with a Garrett 300i about four inches deep on a stubble field.

Thanks

A school boy error on my part ! - obverse pic should be visible now and appears fairly standard compared to the long cross side. Any more information on this silver hammered with crozier gratefully received with thanks.
