Hi Steve, its Sat 11th May 2019.
Location is Purton, Glos.
If you are asking to attend, then I will put your name on the list.
Paint(Ian) will post up a few places where attendees can stay if they are coming Friday evening.
Please read the complete thread as it has lots of information. Still lots of places so get your name down asap before they all vanish as we get nearer.
Remember that this event is aimed primarily at newcomers, but the range of detecting related topics on the day will be of interest and help to others as well, especially the mentoring out in the fields with someone experienced with your machine. These MDF mentors are providing their time for free, so hats off to them. O:8 O:8
MDF newcomers are of course the seasoned MDF members of the future.
Cheers, Liam :;@

Please put my name down for this, it sounds very worthwhile £20 is a bargain. I'm a 'returning newbie' having not seriously detected for over 25 years and a looking to get back into it now that I have a bit more time to spare. I'll be posting in the introduce yourself thread later this evening.

As I'm in Cheltenham it's easy for me to drive down on the day, I'll bring my two old Tesoros (Silver & Royal Sabres) and hope to see some of the rather more advanced new machines in action, to help me decide what to buy to as a 21st century upgrade!

Cheers,
Steve

Good man Steve, I will add your name! These events cost time and money, the bills stack up as you would expect, but I can assure you that 100% of ALL the cash that comes in will be used for a good local charity. Cheers, Liam OooO

I am booked into the Tudor Arms pub on the Friday evening. There is another local event going on, mini wargaming or whatever, so if you want to book a place to stay I suggest you get cracking, Liam ::g

Oh you guys will love that, mini wargaming is even more geeky than our hobby
Actually it is very interesting and tactical, done it myself

Event Update

Spoke to the Flo for Gloucestershire Kirt Adams yesterday evening and have booked him to give us a 30 mins talk about his role. He will start at 10 am he will also try to answer all your questions.
I am in talks with the local Roundtable to help run the event, I am a honorary member they are a charitable organisation. All money raised will be given to them to donate to local good causes. This is a TOTAL charity event and your money will go to some very good causes.
Looking forward to meeting you all and having a great day.
Cheers Paint OooO

Get YOUR name down before the list is full!

Its may be possible to provide some early evening detecting for those staying overnight on the Friday, its a good way to bring up a thirst for a few beers that evening and a special recognition for those who are travelling a long way, Liam OooO

great idea for newbies to learn from experts unfortunaly i live miles from nearest city(60 miles) live in a little town called berwick as far north as u can get in England and as far south as you can get in sScotland
I started this hobby around 6 months ago 1st thing i did was join this forum which gave me heart warming welcome it is also great place for advice,
2nd thing i did was get insurance for when i got permission to go on farmers/council lands
3rd bit was to phone the council for permission but they said i had no land to detect on so i went to the local beach and river to try and learn my detector machine(Joan Allan worth around £100) to see if i was gonna enjoy this hobby
4th thing i did was to go around local farmers introducing myself.....i managed to secure 2 permissions was unlucky with others as a lot of the lands are owned by freemens and farmers lease the land from them
5th after a few months and collecting loads of iron( still trying to get use to metal detectors different sounds i have managed to find 2 cannonballs ww2 service button and US item

Yes i would love to find an expert in my area to guild me but in does not stop me wanting to detect those fields no matter how much iron i find i get the thrill/buzz of the noise of the detector going off and one day hopefully soon i find a hammered coin to add to my collection of old and new coins i collect

Kev - thanks, I will put you on the list ::g
Tizabi - thanks for that very interesting account, you certainly have made every effort to get land, well done on that score ::g I drive past your area when visiting Edinburgh on business, I try to time it for a sunset as I arrive in Berwick as the views across the sea are glorious and I recall the viking incursions into Northumberland, the start of a long series of Danish rais that only ended after the visitors had established themselves more as settlers than raiders and became the people of the Danelaw across the old Mercia, bits of old Wessex and all of East Anglia.
There may be others travelling from your area down to Purton and perhaps you can grab a lift, we have camping allowed on the Friday, with a little bit of detecting even.
Cheers, Liam

PS - soon we will have to open the list to nearby clubs as we need to get the numbers agreed. So time is running out for MDF members.

Hi Liam,

What sort of facilities are we talking about when you say "camping"? Proper campsite or farmers field? Also are caravans allowed?
