I still have a MK 1 Garrett which I have had for about 3 years with no problems. I thought about a new XP one that would talk to the Deus but spent the money on beer instead.

I agree, it must be quite confusing for newcomers looking to equip themselves. I too am still using the original Garrett with no problems suffered to date - he say's touching wood! 8-| Regards ss47

Better prices? I think not....when Garrett brought out the "Mark 1" IIRC it was about £75-80..... now we are in £120++ territory ...unless you count cheap chinese copies as "better prices" ?

I was considering a new zlynk Garrett pointer when they come out, but have no issues with my standard at pointer so money would be better spent on beer.

There must be good money it - there appears to be almost 2 or 3 new ones being advertised every month since Christmas. So either a load will come and go quite quickly or prices will have to fall to attract customers in a very crowded market.

Garrett has had a very easy ride for a long time but i’ll be surprised if they don’t respond with a special price offer, or permanent reduction in price ;))

We all know that there are many economic factors that affect price, its not just about supply and demand, there are factors afoot that could well send prices stratospheric, and as was stated recently "we may not all get what we want, but we will all get what we asked for".

Loving the Deteknix Xpointer Li wader. Liberated me from the uncertainty of the PP3 battery i.e. Is it falsing because of a dead battery or a bad connection? A USB charging internal lithium battery is worth its weight in gold.

It never falses.

I'm often amazed at the price of PPers, I used a stud/cable/pipe finder for a couple of years and it was fine, wrong shape for sticking down a hole mind but it did the job, led screen, battery check and excellent detection range, but best of all £12!

I've just bought a GP pro pointer, one of the chinese ebay offerings for 26 pounds posted.

I'm keeping my eyes open for a good second hand "proper" one.

I intend to compare the 2 as I feel there's not a great deal of field review on the chinese copies, but some who use them have said they're just as handy and last as long as the genuine article.

It’s nice to see a number of manufacturers switching to lithium batteries. So much better than throwing more batteries in to be recycled, or worse, landfill. Plus obviously much cheaper too!

Again though this has has been helped by by strong competition. Lithium batteries were inevitably going to be introduced into a pinpointer but the other manufacturers are now playing catch up so the speed of introduction is gathering pace. Same with the wireless headphone technology. Once you have got used to it you won’t go back.

i guess a lanyard model would be better as it cant get lost ,,but i find rubbing handfulls of dirt over the coil isolates the item in no time anyways..

the new green model kinda looks appealing :))

Having more options is good for the detectorist, you can either stick to what you know and love or try something else. We have a bigger price range now, and many new ones are undercutting the big boys so there's a good chance prices will fall in general.

There's no right or wrong, just personal preference, and now there's more choice. It's no different to the detectors really, every 5 minutes you get the next super deep, fast, wonder machine, the market is becoming more saturated in every way. Look how many coil companies have sprouted up, look at all the specialist digging tools, bags etc

The entire hobby is expanding.

Im not toooooo pleased with either of mine. The dues m16 and the carrot.....but what next both don't seem overally good on cut stuff or minums and end up keep having to use the detector to give it a clue.... have had 2x old black Garrett and pi and minelab one ...umm prob just me expecting tooo much for them to just pinpoint stuff...I don't want leds or 50 lots of sensitivity I just want it to work !!!!!

I can't see why you need levels of sensitivity on a pointer. Its a go / no go device for me. I just need to find the target in the loose that I can't wave over the coil or which side of the hole it is in.

had a GP for two years and its an awesome bit of kit, still got it and it still works, lives in the car and has been so abused its criminal.
due to a tax rebate i treated myself to a makro pointer. again awesome bit of kit and waterproof to boot. only time will tell if £90 is as sensible as £30. but we shall see. often forget to take it and have to use the GP, which is no bad thing.
the so called crappy chinese knock off has served me so well i feel i should give it a honourable retirement but it just keeps soldiering on.

As stated in my earlier post GP pointer been ok for me. The only thing I have to say is that it has never failed to find a target in the clod or hole as shown by the detector which I thought was the object of this type of tool. Not dissing any make however priced. Cheers Dave.

As I said, why do you need a dozen levels of sensitivity for something that is no more than an inch away?
