An intriguing hook

Post by Roughwood »

Good evening all.

I found this at the weekend on a little ploughed area that has so far only yeilded some Georgian coppers and the usual odds 'n sods such as lead scraps, buttons and shotties..

I appreciate that it may well prove to be nothing of interest, but I thought I'd see if anyone can shed any light... I thought initially that it was bent out of shape, but now I'm not so sure.

Found with the Racer 2 in two tone mode, factory settings and using the big RC40 coil. It was approx 5 inches deep. Soil dry but very easy digging.

Thanks for looking, and all the best. ::g

Looks like it was off of a draught horse harness of some sort. The flat loop at the back is for a strap. :D

Yes, you can see two rivets up near the loop where the springy latch part has once been attached but now rusted off. It could have been more straight at one time too without the bend in it.
This is the nearest I could come up with that it is the same principle of how it worked anyway Although the one found is obviously a lot older and more elongated.
