Lead.

Found folded. (Makeshift 'lip' clasping it closed)

Numbers '0, 4 & 5' on the face.

Lead piece contained within.

Interior piece inscribed with patterns.

If a date, perhaps missing the 1st digit?

45AD - Romans have just popped over to say hi. Not in Roman numerals so discounted.

1045AD - Edward the Confessor marries Edith of Wessex and begins construction of Westminster Abbey in England. More likely.

2045AD - Unlikely, but not impossible..

Anyone good with dating of fonts?

The numbers appear stylised.

Cheers!

Numbers wouldnt suggest a date I don't think especially since the styling doesnt look too old but I could well be wrong.
Very intrigued tho!

Not sure those are numbers, the 4 looks just like an angle only and the 5 doesn't seem.to follow through fully. Trying to read patinas and part erased detail is enough to send anyone bonkers sometimes. The only common lead messages I have hesrd of are roman, but who knows, certainly intriguing. ::g

Cleaned up & got better quality camera & fancy lighting to try show the detail..

So the incision has been made deliberately by the looks. Clean slice straight through. The edges look cut or torn. Perhaps destroyed with a vengeance?

Bit of shadow - The 1st ever 'LOL'? =D

It's certainly an interesting bit of lead. I'd let the FLO ponder over it. ::g

I suspect it is a piece of lead guttering taken for reuse. If you do a google search on dated lead guttering you will see some examples. I found a lovely piece several years back regretfully weighed it in with my lead scrap :-L

This is part of a lead firemark. I can see the same column designs on yours.

God gives all men all earth to love, but since man’s heart is small,
Ordains for each one spot shall prove beloved over all.
Each to his choice, and I rejoice, the lot has fallen to me
